Step 1
Search for apprenticeship opportunities below. Make sure to read the criteria and responsibilities thoroughly. Each apprenticeship opportunity is different based on the employer’s needs.
Apprenticeship programs at City Colleges of Chicago combine classroom and on-the-job learning to make up a typical 40-hour work week (on average; some apprenticeships may require more or fewer hours). You will spend part of your time in class at City Colleges and part of your time at work with one of our employer partners, earning both a paycheck and college credit.
Earn a competitive wage and benefits as you complete your degree and industry credentials
Apply what you are learning in class to the real world and showcase your skills for the chance to be offered a full-time position upon completion
Find mentors who can help you advance your career and expand your professional network
What is the difference between an apprenticeship and an internship?
An apprenticeship combines work with education and generally totals around 40 hours per week. You will spend a portion of your time in the classroom and the rest in the office, and your on-the-job training will count toward the completion of your degree or certificate. Your employer will help determine what you learn on the job and in the classroom. This helps ensure you have the exact skills necessary for your industry.
Internships are distinct from your education. The employer doesn’t determine your curriculum, only your job duties.
Who is eligible to participate in apprenticeship programs at City Colleges?
Each position will have its own requirements. Please read the job description for the apprenticeship you are interested in carefully to see if you are eligible for that position.
How long do apprenticeships last?
Your employer will set the timeline, but apprenticeships generally last one or two years.
Am I guaranteed a full-time job at the end of my apprenticeship?
At the end of each apprenticeship program, we hope the employer will extend a full-time offer if you have proven to be a viable candidate and are mutually interested in continuing your employment. There is no guarantee that you will be retained. Our advice: Perform at your highest potential!
How can I get help with my application materials or interview skills?
Each college has a Career Development Center, where you can get personalized support preparing your application, perfecting your resume, getting ready for interviews, and more.
