About Greater Chicago Food Depository
The Greater Chicago Food Depository is seeking apprentices to support our mission work to end hunger in Cook County. The Food Depository is a part of the Feeding America network, which is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Greater Chicago Food Depository is excited to find current CCC students who are qualified candidates for the following positions:
- Communications Apprentice: for students with previous experience or education in writing, storytelling, interviewing, marketing, or sales are preferred. View the full job description HERE

QUALIFICATIONS: Please review the job descriptions above for specific qualifications for each role. In general, applicants
- Must be currently enrolled at City Colleges and in good academic standing (minimum GPA: 2.5) for the duration of the apprenticeship
- Must have no less than 21 credits by the end of Spring 2026 with the goal to complete an Associate’s Degree by the end of the Spring 2027 semester
- Be available to intern at least 20 hours per week during school for shifts no less than 4 hours each during operating hours of Monday – Friday, 8:30a – 5:00pm

- Apprentices are required to have reliable transportation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository headquarters for their in-person hours at 4100 W Ann Lurie Pl, Chicago, IL 60632 (short walk from the 53 Pulaski Bus stop at Pulaski & 41st St. Free on-site parking also available)
- Option to increase workweek to 35-40 hours per week during school breaks during same operating hours by request.
- Currently pursuing a degree in a related filed
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as good interpersonal skills
- Possess familiarity with basic digital literacy (Microsoft Office or equivalent)
- Have comfort with multi-tasking in a deadline-driven environment and be organized and detail oriented
- Able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking capabilities, willingness to learn new skills and ask questions, and enthusiasm and respect for our work and mission
EXPOSURE:
- The apprentices will primarily work in an office setting within the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s headquarters, where they will have the opportunity to interact with professionals in various departments
BENEFITS:
- $21/ hour apprenticeship wage
- Professional development throughout the internship such as Financial Health, Digital Literacy, Advocacy, Networking, etc.
- Onsite wellness center with ample, advanced fitness equipment
- $5 daily credit to Fooda lunch provider; Fooda is an on-site, pop-up food vendor at the Food Depository Monday through Thursday each week with rotating vendors and menu offerings
