Company Description:
The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) is an integral component of the Biological Sciences Division (BSD). The BSD is the largest of four Divisions of the University and includes the Pritzker School of Medicine. UCCCC administers four established scientific programs, and the NCI-sponsored Cancer Center Support Grant provides funding for ten Shared Resources. The Comprehensive Cancer Center is comprised of over 150 faculty members from twenty departments with members currently being awarded over $47 million in total direct costs in peer-reviewed cancer research grants, and $28 million in non-peer reviewed grants and contracts. The activities of the Center are broad and varied, including research, training and education, communications, fundraising, marketing, clinical trials management and community outreach. UCCCC has one of the largest cancer clinical trials programs in the country and in the Chicago area with nearly 500 adult and pediatric therapeutic trials actively accruing patients. Many of these studies are investigator-initiated, including Phase I or I/II trials, demonstrating UCCCC commitment to translate basic research findings to the clinic through proof-of principle and early phase studies. UCCCC opens over 250 new trials each year and accrues approximately 900 participants to therapeutic trials each year.
Job Summary:
The C5RI Internship provides City Colleges students the opportunity to learn about various roles in clinical research industry and how each supports, facilitates and coordinates the daily clinical trial activities. Under direct supervision and mentoring, the selected C5RI interns will engage in pre-determined clinical research projects while gaining experience in core workforce areas such as regulatory management, clinical research coordination, data management, and quality assurance. Throughout the experience, participants will partake in biweekly faculty seminars and workshops including guest speakers from a variety of STEM professions, workplace tours, professional leadership development, and post-degree planning. The summer internship is complemented during the academic year by quarterly career development and skill-building workshops, opportunities for continued cohort community building, and mentorship for post-degree transition.

Responsibilities:
- Participates in clinical research lectures and seminars
- Responsible for completing all assigned weekly projects
- Performs other related work as needed
- Creates final project portfolio
- Presents about internship experience at educational symposium
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an associate degree program at City Colleges of Chicago (can be a graduate in May 2025)
- At least age 18 at start of program
- Strong interest in a career in clinical research and the clinical research workforce
- Ability to commit to the full on-site six-week internship at 35- hours/week, and quarterly enrichment activities during the academic year
- United States citizen or permanent resident
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience
- Interest in clinical research and/or clinical trials
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
