People & Culture Intern – Human Resources (12-Month Role)

Pay: $21/hour
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is seeking interns to support our mission work to end hunger in Cook County. The Food Depository is a part of the Feeding America network, which is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. The Development IG Intern will play a key role in supporting the Individual Giving team to enhance donor relationships and communication. This role focuses on fundraising skills such as data entry, donor communications both digital and phone, planning and implementation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in recruiting and onboarding new employees, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and preparing new hire documentation
- Support employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, recognition programs, and team-building activities
- Help maintain employee records and assist with HR administrative tasks
- Assist in organizing training sessions, workshops, and other learning opportunities for staff development
- Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs within the organization.
- Provide general administrative support to the People & Culture team as needed
- Assist with research and data collection for people-related projects and reports
- This role will also rotate with the volunteer team facilitating volunteer sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must remain enrolled at City Colleges and in good academic standing (minimum GPA: 2.5) for the duration of the internship
- Must have no less than 30 credits by the end of Spring 2025 with the goal to complete an Associate’s Degree by the end of the Spring 2026 semester
- Be available to intern at least 20 hours per week during school for shifts no less than 4 hours each during operating hours of Monday – Friday, 8:30a – 5:00pm, hybrid (M/F remote, Tu/W/Th in person); more than 20 hours of internship per week can be accommodated
- Available to intern 35-40 hours per week during school breaks during same operating hours
- Be committed to seeking full time employment in the fund development industry after the internship
- Currently pursuing a degree in a related field
- Possess customer service and problem-solving skills as well as excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Able to be flexible, multitask and meet deadlines
- Able to provide and support team spirit and willingness to collaborate creatively
- Have a strong interest in the field of Human Resources
- Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
EXPOSURE:
- The Individual Giving Intern will primarily work in an office setting within the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s headquarters, where they will have the opportunity to interact with Development professionals and other departments
- This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of human resources in a nonprofit setting, particularly in the areas of employee engagement, organizational culture, and recruitment
- Available to intern at least 20 hours per week during school for shifts no less than 4 hours each during operating hours of Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, in person; more than 20 hours of internship per week can be accommodated
- Available to intern 35-40 hours per week during school breaks during those same operating hours
