Job Title: STEM Fellow

Program Dates

  • Cohort A: Sept 14th – Oct 23rd
  • Cohort B: Oct 26th – Dec 11th

Duration: 8-12 weeks during normal business hours (8am to 5pm)

Modality: In-Person downtown Chicago

Hours per week: 10-20 hours

  • Depending on academic schedule

Wage: $20/hr

About Nexamp

Nexamp is a U.S.-based clean energy company that develops, owns, and operates solar power and energy storage projects nationwide. Founded in 2007 by two U.S. Army veterans, Nexamp is known for its vertically integrated approach—covering development, financing, construction, operations, and maintenance—making it easier for customers and partners to adopt renewable energy..

Job Purpose:

The Nexamp STEM Fellowship is designed to provide college students and early-career talent with
hands-on, paid experience across Nexamp’s clean energy business. Fellows are embedded across
multiple teams including Grid Integration, Portfolio Operations, Policy, Clean Energy Deployment
and Legal to support real projects while gaining broad exposure to how solar projects move from
concept to execution and long-term operation.
Note: All work is supervised and designed for learning, not independent system ownership.
This role exists to:

  • Build a strong, diverse clean energy talent pipeline
  • Provide meaningful project-based support to Nexamp teams
  • Offer fellows practical experience, mentorship, and career clarity within the solar industry

Responsibilities

Cross-Functional Project Support

  • Support Nexamp teams with short-term and ongoing projects aligned to business needs
  • Assist team leads and project managers with research, coordination, documentation, and
    task execution
  • Collaborate across departments to understand how different functions contribute to solar
    project delivery.

Project & Operational Support (may vary by placement)

  • Assist with project tracking, scheduling, and documentation
    Gather, organize, and analyze data related to project progress, deliverables, or operational
    performance
  • Support in preparation of presentations, reports, dashboards, or internal materials
  • Support office-based and occasional field-related tasks tied to active projects

Workforce Development & Program Support

  •  Participate in onboarding, training, or coordination efforts related to workforce programs
  • Participate in professional development sessions, site visits, and learning activities coordinated by WFD
  • Track deliverables, learning outcomes, and project contributions throughout the fellowship

Learning & Professional Growth

  • Engage in structured learning opportunities to build technical, professional, and industry
    knowledge
  • Receive feedback and mentorship from Nexamp staff across teams
  • Contribute to a capstone, presentation, or final reflection summarizing fellowship
    experience.

Required Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required.

Education:

  • High School diploma
  • Current CCC student pursuing an Associate Degree with a focus in STEM and other majors outside of STEM encouraged to apply.
  • Example of Successful Majors: Engineering, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Construction Management,  Policy, Sustainability, IT, Business, Marketing, Liberal Arts or similar
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

Travel

Site visits are dependent on role placement and are not required for all fellows.
o Occasional local travel for site visits
o Valid driver’s license in good standing and or vehicle

Preferred Education / Experience (nice to have)

  • Strong interest in renewable energy and sustainability.
  • Positive, can-do attitude with eagerness to learn.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with project management tools a plus).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Preferred but not required: OSHA 10 certification, prior exposure to construction or engineering environments.
  • Commitment to Nexamp’s mission and have a passion for solving tomorrow’s climate crisis today.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
    Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions.
