Education requirements:

  • Working toward an Accounting/Finance/Business related AAS degree at City Colleges of Chicago
  • The ideal candidate graduates in May 2025

Job Summary:

As a crucial member of our Accounting Operations team, the analyst will play a pivotal role in performing accounting, operational and financial close related activities including interacting with global partners. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and hands-on experience in an innovative and collaborative work environment.

Apprentice can also expect to:

  • ​​Accounting Operations table-stakes  
    • Perform accounting, operational and financial close related activities requiring an understanding of general accounting principles and may include but are not limited to preparing journal entries, checking supporting entries, daily accounts payable balancing, account reconciliations, and/or account reporting analysis. 
    • Foster a collaborative and transparent team culture by promoting open communication and information sharing 
  • ​Special Projects 
    • Assist in current finance special projects, such as financial system testing efforts, compliance audits both internal and external, and new technology initiatives.  
    • Actively participate in the build out of the Center of Excellence for bank and other ledger account reconciliations  
  • Continuous Improvement 
    • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency and delivery capabilities. 
    • Identify and address impediments to the team’s progress and collaborate with stakeholders to implement effective solutions. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Have at least one academic year left at City Colleges of Chicago
  • Earn passing grades (of a C or higher) in coursework
  • Analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft tools (e.g., Excel)  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Job Description

Want to work in your field and train on the job? Join our 12-24 month Apprenticeship Program where you will receive on-the-job training, career guidance, and one-on-one mentorship – all while attending school! Allstate will also provide tuition assistance, benefits, competitive wages, and hands-on training in the field of Internal Audit. This is a remote position. 

The program will start August 2022.

Auditor Apprentices will start in a fast-paced developmental program consisting of job assignments supporting the various internal audit teams (Property/Casualty, Life, Investments, Finance, IT, and SOX) and an opportunity to work with our external auditors. During this period, individuals will start to build an understanding of the various areas of the organization as they conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with audit planning and execution, including risk assessment, process analysis, and control evaluation
  • Working with audit team members to complete the audit on time and within budget
  • Providing support to our external auditors
  • Partnering with Management in support of key initiatives and projects

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a strong team environment with minimal oversight
  • Basic project management skills
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of audit theory and application
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort in dealing with the unknown
  • Intermediate relationship building skills
  • Basic critical thinking and problem-solving skills around business issues
  • Proficiency in business-related computing applications (e.g., Microsoft Office applications)

Compensation Data

As an Apprentice, you will work between 20-30 hours per week at a rate of $23.00/hour. Tuition Reimbursement and Benefits are available.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
