Job Summary:

As a crucial member of our Accounting Operations team, the analyst will play a pivotal role in performing accounting, operational and financial close related activities including interacting with global partners. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and hands-on experience in an innovative and collaborative work environment.

Apprentice can also expect to:

  • ​​Accounting Operations table-stakes  
    • Perform accounting, operational and financial close related activities requiring an understanding of general accounting principles and may include but are not limited to preparing journal entries, checking supporting entries, daily accounts payable balancing, account reconciliations, and/or account reporting analysis. 
    • Foster a collaborative and transparent team culture by promoting open communication and information sharing 
  • ​Special Projects 
    • Assist in current finance special projects, such as financial system testing efforts, compliance audits both internal and external, and new technology initiatives.  
    • Actively participate in the build out of the Center of Excellence for bank and other ledger account reconciliations  
  • Continuous Improvement 
    • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency and delivery capabilities. 
    • Identify and address impediments to the team’s progress and collaborate with stakeholders to implement effective solutions. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Have at least one academic year left at City Colleges of Chicago
  • Earn passing grades (of a C or higher) in coursework
  • Analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft tools (e.g., Excel)  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Apprentices will spend between 20-30 hours a week engaged in hands-on learning to help build a strong career foundation. We provide flexible scheduling to accommodate your life and school commitments.  Students should be enrolled for the duration of the apprenticeship period.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking pathway at a community or technical college
  • Must be enrolled in courses related to intended career field
  • Must be in good academic standing at attending institution
  • Must not currently be participating in another apprenticeship program (virtual or in person)
  • Has completed no more than 30 semester credit hours by August 2023

The program will start August 2022.

As a Treasury Associate Apprentice, You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Consolidating and entering wires in the Treasury workstation with a proper degree of timeliness and accuracy to allow the short-term traders to make investment decisions.
  • Prepare wire activity reports and analysis to optimize wire activity and cash flow activity
  • Displays sound administration skills including documentation, follow up and adherence to established guidelines.
  • Capable of performing mission critical related tasks during business resumption events.
  • Provide optimal customer support to internal clients, colleagues and external financial service partners
  • Assisting with team projects
  • Implementing process improvements
  • Other miscellaneous responsibilities and projects

Auditor Apprentices will start in a fast-paced developmental program consisting of job assignments supporting the various internal audit teams (Property/Casualty, Life, Investments, Finance, IT, and SOX) and an opportunity to work with our external auditors. During this period, individuals will start to build an understanding of the various areas of the organization as they conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with audit planning and execution, including risk assessment, process analysis, and control evaluation
  • Working with audit team members to complete the audit on time and within budget
  • Providing support to our external auditors
  • Partnering with Management in support of key initiatives and projects

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a strong team environment with minimal oversight
  • Basic project management skills
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of audit theory and application

As the major point of contact in the contact center, the AskHR customer care specialist investigates and solves company-wide employee and manager problems and  inquires by providing consultation through multiple channels (phone, chat, and email) around the full spectrum of HR services (e.g., programs, policies, processes, systems).  These services include performance management, payroll, organization management (OM), paid time off (PTO), talent management, compensation management, reporting and general technology troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Listens to and acknowledges customer requests with respect and empathy
  • Responds to general inquiries from employees, managers and delegates on Employee Central, Manager Self-Service, HR policy, payroll, timekeeping, compensation, organizational management and Talent Connection
  • Refers questions to appropriate vendor and sets clear expectations around roles and responsibilities of all involved parties for the remainder of case
  • Assists customers in navigating HR or other resources
  • Probes and gathers information and makes judgments and/or recommendations to customer as appropriate
  • Explains processes, requirements and timelines related to the inquiry to proactively advise customers on requisite activities to complete full stream transactions
  • Provides support and counseling on the appropriate fields to fill out when terminations, promotions, demotions, etc. need to be submitted

  • Strong client relationship skills – ability to establish, manage and leverage relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to empathize and handle end-to-end inquiries working to provide exceptional customer service

  • Advanced written and communication skills
  • Project management skills – ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Human Resource systems knowledge preferred
  • SAP and Kronos knowledge is a plus

Compensation Data

As an Apprentice, you will work between 20-30 hours per week at a rate of $20.67/hour. Tuition Reimbursement and Benefits are available.

Want to work in your field and train on the job? Join our 12–24-month apprentice program! You will earn and learn on the job, receive career guidance and mentorship, all while attending school. Allstate will also provide tuition assistance and hands-on training in the field of Talent Acquisition.

The program will start August 22, 2022.

As the Human Resources Talent Acquisition Apprentice – Campus Recruitment Coordinator, you will support the campus recruiting and programs team in candidate sourcing, candidate relationships, university relationships, and program execution. In addition, you will have the opportunity to participate in campus events where we recruit for these programs.

Where you come in:

  • Support and optimize internship program activities to create a best-in-class experience for program participants.
  • Maintain the integrity of candidate management databases
  • Assist recruiters with the Campus Diversity Plan through relationships with University Career Teams, Professors and Student Organizations on-campus
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with recruiters to identify talent needs as well as consult on best practices
  • Participates in ad-hoc projects aligned with TA and/or organization strategies and goals

Job Qualifications

  • Proven track record of being detail-orientated and organized to complete various projects on multiple timelines
  • Able to work autonomously, take ownership and make decisions that will serve the candidate, client and business
  • Confident, professional communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Sense of comfort in ambiguous situations where the question may be bigger than the answers given
  • Applies broad problem-solving skills to continuously improve business outcomes
