As a crucial member of our Accounting Operations team, the analyst will play a pivotal role in performing accounting, operational and financial close related activities including interacting with global partners. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and hands-on experience in an innovative and collaborative work environment.

Apprentice can also expect to:

  • ​​Accounting Operations table-stakes  
    • Perform accounting, operational and financial close related activities requiring an understanding of general accounting principles and may include but are not limited to preparing journal entries, checking supporting entries, daily accounts payable balancing, account reconciliations, and/or account reporting analysis. 
    • Foster a collaborative and transparent team culture by promoting open communication and information sharing 
  • ​Special Projects 
    • Assist in current finance special projects, such as financial system testing efforts, compliance audits both internal and external, and new technology initiatives.  
    • Actively participate in the build out of the Center of Excellence for bank and other ledger account reconciliations  
  • Continuous Improvement 
    • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency and delivery capabilities. 
    • Identify and address impediments to the team’s progress and collaborate with stakeholders to implement effective solutions. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Have at least one academic year left at City Colleges of Chicago
  • Earn passing grades (of a C or higher) in coursework
  • Analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft tools (e.g., Excel)  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Under the direction of the Director of Awards Management, and following established guidelines: Create compliant sponsored research award accounts in electronic research administration and financial management systems efficiently and with a high degree of accuracy; review accepted and negotiated sponsored research awards, contracts and agreements from a wide spectrum of sponsors (e.g., federal and state governments, corporate and industry, non-federal and foundations) to determine the following:  appropriate account types, payment structures, subawards and associated terms and conditions regarding budgeting, expenditure allowances and disallowances, granted authorities, university financial commitments, program income, and invoicing requirements in order to create appropriate account structures for award setup and management.

 

  • Non-Financial Post Award Administration of Sponsored Research Awards

Following established guidelines:  Review and assess sponsor communications for sponsored research lifecycle award administration requirements and actions, which may include award amendments, period of performance adjustments and extensions, funding increases or decreases, added obligations, terminations, key personnel changes, cost share, and closeout activities. Review and/or process requests from university units to create new subprojects for established awards. Complete systematic maintenance of aging and problematic award records through their resolution. Ensure award actions remain compliant with university, sponsor, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., Uniform Guidance, Federal Acquisition Regulations). Review for accuracy and completeness technical/programmatic Research Performance Progress Reports for grants made by the National Institutes of Health.

Risk Assessment 

  • Gathers and reviews information for subrecipient risk assessment using appropriate resources that house such information; creates, updates the central risk assessment folders accordingly to support subcontracting to wide range of subrecipient entities (IHE, other non-profit/non-IHE, for-profit, and non-US) for subcontracts funded by a wide range of federal, industry, foundation, private, government and other sponsors.
  • Develops productive working relationships with Northwestern research administrators, Investigators, researchers, internal staff, and external subrecipient entity administrators to facilitate subrecipient risk assessment to ensure compliance with university and sponsor policies and procedures, as well as those of subcontracting/collaborating institutions and partners.

Other 

  • Interprets and articulates institutional and sponsor policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Proactively keeps Subcontracts Management team apprised of changes in policies and regulations of federal and non-federal grantor agencies. Identifies potential risk assessment, related procedural, and/or policy issues affecting subcontracts issuance and works with appropriate team members and other stakeholders to resolve risk assessment related issues.
  • Attends all staff and regular campus-wide training and research administration meetings to keep current with federal agency, state and other sponsor requirements, timelines, and policy issues.

Job Description

Want to work in your field and train on the job? Join our 12-24 month Apprenticeship Program where you will receive on-the-job training, career guidance, and one-on-one mentorship – all while attending school! Allstate will also provide tuition assistance, benefits, competitive wages, and hands-on training in the field of Treasury. This is a remote position. 

The program will start August 2022.

As a Treasury Associate Apprentice, You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Consolidating and entering wires in the Treasury workstation with a proper degree of timeliness and accuracy to allow the short-term traders to make investment decisions.
  • Prepare wire activity reports and analysis to optimize wire activity and cash flow activity
  • Displays sound administration skills including documentation, follow up and adherence to established guidelines.
  • Capable of performing mission critical related tasks during business resumption events.
  • Provide optimal customer support to internal clients, colleagues and external financial service partners
  • Assisting with team projects
  • Implementing process improvements
  • Other miscellaneous responsibilities and projects
  • Working collaboratively within the team and across the department

Join Allstate’s 12–24-month apprentice program! You will earn and learn on the job, receive career guidance, and one-on-one mentorship, all while attending school. Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the preparation of Allstate SEC reports, GAAP audit reports, statutory reports, and financial reporting sections of shareholder external communications, such as the quarterly earnings release and Investor Supplement
  • Coordinating the preparation of materials for certain committee meetings, such as the Audit Committee and Disclosure Committee
  • Assisting with team projects
  • Implementing process improvements
  • Other miscellaneous responsibilities and projects
  • Working collaboratively within the team and across the department

Job Qualifications

  • Pursuing an associate degree in Accounting, Business or related field and can also work around class schedule
  • Passion for accounting and reporting

Compensation Data

As an Apprentice, you will work between 20-30 hours per week at a rate of $22.38/hour. Tuition Reimbursement and Benefits are available.

Want to work in your field and train on the job? Join our 12-24 month Apprenticeship Program where you will receive on-the-job training, career guidance, and one-on-one mentorship – all while attending school! Allstate will also provide tuition assistance, benefits, competitive wages, and hands-on training in the field of Internal Audit. This is a remote position. 

The program will start August 2022.

Auditor Apprentices will start in a fast-paced developmental program consisting of job assignments supporting the various internal audit teams (Property/Casualty, Life, Investments, Finance, IT, and SOX) and an opportunity to work with our external auditors. During this period, individuals will start to build an understanding of the various areas of the organization as they conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with audit planning and execution, including risk assessment, process analysis, and control evaluation
  • Working with audit team members to complete the audit on time and within budget
  • Providing support to our external auditors
  • Partnering with Management in support of key initiatives and projects

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a strong team environment with minimal oversight
  • Basic project management skills
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of audit theory and application
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort in dealing with the unknown

About [Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago]: We are a federally chartered corporation and one of 11 Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBanks) that, with the Office of Finance, comprise the Federal Home Loan Bank System.  The FHLBanks were chartered by Congress under the Federal Home Loan Bank Act of 1932 to improve the availability of funds to support home ownership.  Each FHLBank is cooperatively owned by member financial institutions in its district and operated as a separate entity with its own management, employees, and board of directors.  Our district consists of the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. Position Summary: The MPF Operations and Support Apprentice will assist PFIs (Participating Financial Institutions) and the Federal Home Loan Banks in the performance of mortgage pricing and executing mortgage-related financial transactions.  He/she will assist with a wide variety of important functions including providing guidance to our PFIs regarding guidelines, performing research, compiling and analyzing mortgage data for reports, performing rate distribution communications and reconciling daily transactions, accounts, and exceptions.  The targeted Service Center Position at the end of the Apprentice program will be MPF Operations and Support Specialist.

Anticipated Start Date:  January 10, 2022

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

·       Assist with the execution of mortgage related financial transactions and mortgage pricing

·       Act as a liaison between internal departments and external business partners for the support of products and the development of financial institution relationships

·       Apply origination, underwriting, servicing, and Mortgage Banking knowledge to provide resolution to questions and issues that arise with external business partners or internal parties

·       Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of transactions, accounts, and exceptions

·       Complete ongoing mortgage industry and technical skill training

·       Acquire and maintain the foundational skills needed to perform the required Service Center responsibilities

Employer Qualifications and Requirements: employer will describe what qualifications/requirements are needed prior to job posting

·       Enrolled in one of the city Colleges working toward an associates in Finance or another Business discipline with a remainder of one year or less in completing the Associates Degree

·       Quick learner; Attention to detail; Reliable; Organizational skills and capable of meeting required deadlines

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide the customer service MPF strives to maintain and continually improve on

·       Proficiency in Excel or enrolled in Excel classes

·       Proficiency in Access or enrolled in Access Based classes

Program Qualifications:

·       Completed less than 24 credit hours

·       Pursuing an associate’s degree in Finance or another Business discipline

·       Available to work 23 hours minimum per week

·       Earn passing grades (of a C or higher) in coursework

·       Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

·       Agree to participate in professional development sessions
